Join us for an engaging professional development session dedicated to Supporting Struggling Readers and Writers for teachers in grades 3 to 8. This session focuses on evidence-based strategies to enhance comprehension, fluency, and written expression for students who are not yet meeting grade-level expectations, with a special emphasis on preparing for the STAAR assessments.
Objectives:
- Enhance Reading Comprehension Skills: Teachers will learn and apply evidence-based strategies to help students better understand and retain complex texts, ensuring they are prepared for STAAR reading sections.
- Improve Student Fluency: Educators will discover and implement activities and practices that increase reading speed and accuracy, which are crucial for students to perform well on timed STAAR tests.
- Develop Written Expression Techniques: Participants will explore methods to support students in organizing and expressing their thoughts effectively in writing, aligned with STAAR writing prompts and requirements, while also learning how to provide quick and actionable feedback to improve students' writing within a shorter time frame.
