Session 1: January 28, 2021
Topic: Reading and Writing Connections
How can we maximize time in literacy instruction? This session will explore strategies for integrating reading and writing instruction in kinder, first, and second grade classrooms. Best practices for teaching word study (phonics), comprehension, and writing will be shared and practiced in the fast-paced session.
Session 2: February 18, 2021
Topic: Grammar and Mechanics
Can we effectively teach 5-8 year old students to construct dynamic sentences? Research-based Strategies for teaching the nuts and bolts of sentence fluency will be demonstrated, practiced and planned in this 90-minute session. Participants will also interact with digital resources, apps and platforms that can be integrated in both brick and mortar classrooms and in virtual spaces.
Session 3: March 25, 2021
Topic: Comprehension and Composition
The title says it all! This session will explore instructional strategies for teaching our youngest readers and writers how to truly think about what they're reading and writing. Participants will take a deep dive into reading and writing for a variety of purposes.
Session 4: April 15, 2021
Topic: Writing Across the CurriculumĀ
How can we teach our youngest students to write like mathematicians, scientists, historians, artists, etc.? Come and explore best practices for teaching writing in various content areas in kinder, first and second grade. Participants will practice creating authentic writing experiences for our youngest scholars.
