Description: Deconstruct the writing process and practice strategies for editing compositions. Participants will delve into editing through conferring while looking at compositions and editing on the multiple-choice portion of STAAR writing.
Session 3: 3-Week Review Plan 3/06/2021
Description: What can you do three weeks before the writing assessment to help your students prepare for STAAR writing? Come explore all the possibilities and leave with a plan of action without killing the joy of writing for your students.
STAAR READING SERIES:
Session 1: Literary Text (Fiction, Poetry and Drama) 1/09/2021
Description: This interactive session will explore the subtle nuances of literary text on the STAAR reading assessment. Come and explore research-based strategies for teaching increasingly complex literary texts. Genres will include realistic fiction, literary nonfiction, folktales, fables, legends, poetry, and drama.
Session 2: Informational Text 2/27/2021
Description: Across the state, students are increasingly challenged with comprehending informational text. This session will uncover strategies for demystifying informational texts for all students, so they can be successful.
Session 3: Paired Selections 3/27/2021
Description: Paired selections can be challenging for our students, but there are ways to help them find thematic similarities and differences. These sessions will explore strategies for tackling multiple genre texts on STAAR.
Session 4: 3-Week Review Plan 4/17/2021
Description: It’s three weeks before the STAAR Reading assessment. Do you have a plan? Come and practice strategies for building your students’ stamina and expanding their comprehension toolkit across genres.
