2023 Session Summaries
Session 1: STAAR Reading is changing to include writing in 2023. This session explored the rubrics and samples for the short-constructed response and extended constructed response items. We practiced strategies for creating effective essays going through the writing process while grounded in text read. We uncovered strategies for demystifying
informational and argumentative texts for all students, so they can be successful. Explored strategies for integrating writing into reading informational text, best practices for teaching revising, and constructed response items. See you at the next session!

SESSION 2: This interactive session explored the subtle nuances of literary text on the STAAR reading assessment. We provided practice research-based strategies for teaching increasingly complex literary texts. Explored strategies for integrating writing into reading fiction, best practices for teaching revising, and constructed response items. The second half of this course explored high-yield strategies for teaching access points for complex poetry and drama texts on STAAR. Practiced strategies for integrating writing into reading poetry and drama, best practices for teaching editing, and new item types. See you at the next session!

Come and practice strategies for building your students’ stamina, expanding their comprehension toolkit across genres, and preparing scholars for the new Redesigned STAAR Item Types with integrated writing.
